Willi Eggerman's daughter Laura Bigger makes wonderful emulsion prints. Sorry this one is already in my collection, but there are many others. Wouldn't this look spectacular if it were a ceramic tile?
The One Handed Potter Christopher Donley can also draw.
Cindy Alaimo's little boy Chandler Jordan makes Magic Wands and Frog Flippers.
Shena Redmond, Todd's wife, has a fine selection of fabric shoulder bags.
Ann Barnsley's mother Carol Pierce makes these little Santa tree decorations from mussel shells from Mexico.

Lots of Functionl Pottery this Fall

Dale Rose continues her work in soft lush glazes.
Pam Robinson, though not a big producer, always pleases with active glazes.
Tammy Lynn shows her glaze techinque in this array of small vases. Tammy gets TOP HONORS for her candy selection.
The richness of this "butter with iron" glaze used by Tammy doesn't show like I wanted in this photo. Come to the sale and see for yourself. Did I mention Tammy has excellent taste in candies? Anybody that puts out White Rabbit candy is OK in my book.
This platter sold before I left the building. Larking Hosmer has more of these platters as you can see stacked here and in other racks in his display.

Who does purple and red better than Linda?
Prolific potter Sue Sprague displays a bright and exciting platter.
Sue has little fish saucers, got to show them.
Deanne Ketterman is the only guild potter currently showing Majolica. Deanne also works in stoneware.
Colorful and playful work by Deanne.
Sarah Kaspar-Houssney has produced a diverse selection of ceramic work showing attention to detail and color selection.
One of several Tea Pot and Cup sets by Sarah.
Lois Edgar uses natural images to boldly accent her ceramic as well as her paper work.
Deer / Antelope figures predominate much of the work in Lois' display.
Many handles for Lois' work are small porcelain animals in a brilliant celadon galze.
To fellow potters the cone pack might be the most beautiful piece by Shanti Gillis, deep rich celadon colors probably from a salt firing.
Shanti draws inspiration from the red clay to embody the organic of her work, I see the small dashes in the semi-circular spaces as drawn from Hopi rain images.
Multi=dimensional glaze work that's soft and lush from Shanti.
Anyone that follows or collects the work of Lydia Pellow will recognize this display.

Fall Sale 2007

If there was ever an image that does not do justice to the richness, vibrancy, and feeling this is the one. BEST OF SHOW...If you don't see this one before it is sold, you have missed out. Click on the image for a larger picture. Then go out and buy a larger screen for your computer and look at the image again.
Besides wall plaques and cactus planters Bob Judson makes outstanding Bird Houses. See last years examples, buy one, Bob will just make more.
This piece was shown in Loveland at the sculpture show the past summer. If you haven't seen Todd Redmond's latest work you need to get out more.

All My Saints

Todd still works with functional ware for some reason beyond my comprehension, maybe it keeps him grounded. Not all of his work is this colorful.
Cris Conklin is now working in salt as well as her high fire reduction work. Another step forward.
A Cowboy on a Moose Pull Toy by Caroline Douglas. As much wonderful work as Caroline has done this could be perhaps my favorite piece, ever, all time, only hoping for more.
Caroline's work makes you think, laugh, and just ponder. Sheep in a boat, lost in confusion, maybe.

Something out of the ordinary by Karen Dick. Not shown in this picture the edges lift up for a bowl effect, perfect for any center piece.
Karen Dick always has lots of functional work for sale.
Dynamic glaze work by Donna Miers. Not all of Donna's bowls have this touch, thank goodness the whole blog would be filled with her work.

A collection of cups by Willi Eggerman
Marcia Usow is one of the great teachers and producers of ceramic art that is functional at the same time. If your collection does not contain something from Marcia you deserve to be slapped up side the head.
Not typical work by Pam Lambert but I couldn't pass this piece by. A rather large spectacular pit fire vessel. If you see it you have to touch it.
I love this little Bear guarding the rose in the pitcher by Pam Lambert.
Barb Curtis is still the number one when it comes to crackle glaze in raku work. She also has lots of functional work. One of my favorite pieces is a container for my bulk tea I bought several years ago.
Cindy Alaimo has great tree ornaments, just like the ones I use at home, there is also work similar to what she has shown in the past.

Member's newsletter addition/correction

"The new kiln shelves have arrived. We now have 34 new Acme Marl cone
11 kiln shelves for use in the brick, fiber, and shuttle kilns. We do
not yet have a suitable place to put them but that will hopefully
happen soon. Thank you Logan, Alfred, and Larkin for unpacking and
kiln washing all of them. And thank you Logan for doing much work to
put the salt kiln into working order, grinding bricks, cleaning salt
residue on the burners, kiln washing the bricks for the door..."

All well and good, but we got excellent supervision and physical help, the shelves are heavy, from Caroline. Caroline also did all the kiln wash work.

Unloading the Pit Fire

The best part of a big firing is the unloading. Unless you're a pyro and in love with fire.

The kiln was cool to the touch.

Looks a little messy, who's first to stick their hands into the ashes.

Doesn't look like a lot of color with all the ashes.

Cleaned up and on the table. Adults have found their heads. Todd is telling fish stories.

No one was sure where the green came from.

Organic pod of some sort. When washed with water the green was gone.

Surfaces pushed into the sawdust came out black.

A set of extruded pieces.

It wasn't a house party so Jan had to fire a little house.

Pit Fire Set-Up

Several members gathered at Ann's farm in east Boulder County to group fire in her "pit". We had all been told to bring some pots bisqued to cone 08. Terra Siged and burnished was best.

Ann really doesn' t fire in a pit but in a built up container of fire bricks about knee high. No crawling around on the ground to place combustibles and ware in a hole.

We put about 3 or 4 inches of sawdust in the bottom added some sulfides, oxides, and salts to the mix and loaded in the ware.

Then we stuffed in lots of newspaper.

Waiting for the momentous moment. We've added a layer of smaller pieces of hardwood and topped it off with larger split timber.

Once lit we chopped off the heads of the adults present. Wait that's a photography term. No blood was spilled.

With the fire progressing a mixture of copper carbonate and sawdust was thrown over the top. More heads rolled.

The fire well in hand with the sheet metal covering the pit. Once the fire has burned down the spacing bricks will be removed and the sheet metal will seal the pit allowing the pots to reach their ideal temperature.

We will return the next day, 24 hours later.

Third Time's the Charm

Ceramics as Art

Erica is a new member and has been diligent in re-filling her depleted display, better hurry.

Darryl continues his study of modified form with an emphasis on celedon glaze.
Note the dragon handle on the container.

Danni has lots of sculpture and fetish forms with that southwest flair.
Don't miss her shrine in the large sculpture area.

I'm on an olive tray kick and had to add Bernie's effort.

Functional Work the Star of the Show Part Two

A continuation of functional work.
Both space and battery conspired to make this a two day posting.

Sanna adds felt hats to her long recognized hand painted earthenware.

Sue S. brings her sensible design from Eldorado Springs.

Sue D. never dissapoints her collectors with her consistent work.

Marcia teaches at Naropa University and her work shows why they treasure her.

Lydia throws and throws and throws the most wonderful of pots. She includes hard to find items in her inventory.

Lois also includes her hand pressed and embossed greeting cards, not to be missed.

Logan produced the best of show with the sold plate, note the empty plate stand at the bottom of the picture. Lots of other good stuff. No I wasn't the purchaser, drat.

Karen has added angels to her vast inventory she brings us from Estes Park.

Joyce sets the bar with her work in porcelain. Beautiful glaze work.

Jeniffer has earthy colors with divergent form.

Jan uses sgraffito to decorate her porcelain.
The designs make me think of the Balkans.

Dianne gives us her frog soap dishes as well as an assortment of other work.

Rose has fluid colors, soft enough for any palette.

Christopher is one of our new members with a diverse selection of work.

Barb Mc. uses impressed patterns to accent the vitality of her work,.
Much more than shown here.

Barb C. has the crackle down on her Raku work.
Most of her work is functional.
I use one her containers like the ones shown above to store my tea.

Not just Pottery...Ceramic Art

Susan Gale adds heart to the show with one of a kind containers.

Bob includes his spectacular bird houses along with his tiles and cactus.
He still digs his own clay.
And we all dig his work.

Caroline has her friends on plates, as well as her many other sculptural visions on display.

Willi bends the world of functional pottery in an organic sensual way that boggles the mind.
I had to include her work in the ceramic art section, it's just more...

Nancy makes all of your friends into containers.

Mary Lynn makes two walled bowls, giant seed forms, and wonderful birds.
There are also tiles of magnificant proportions.

Krista has a whole tree of porcelain ornaments.
Not shown are a collection of organic form necklaces.

Janet usually sells out the first day.
This year her little village is much larger in number.

Kate fumes some of her Raku work for spectular effect.
Deep carved ideographs highlight her powerful work.

I had to add another picture of Caroline's little friends, this time in shoes and slippers instead of the boats.

Bernie's platers crave to be used on the table every day.
Just not your usual functional form.
Unmotivated seller Bernie has his dogs hidden under the display, don't miss them.

Functional Work the Star of the Show

Todd is a prolific producer with tiles, containers, and plates in his inventory.
Traditional as well as expermential colors.

Linda is our director of classes.
Beautiful sets as well as individual pieces.

Shanti decorates in such a way you want to own every one of her pieces.
Every year her work gets more stunning.

Deborah is our current president. Her work shows an asian influence and needs to be held in hand.
Note the olive trays in the center of the picture. My mouth is watering.

Robin is one of our newer members of an ever growing Potters' Guild.

'Ani' has a strong spiritual influence in her work not shown in this picture.
You need to see more of her work, perhaps in another post.

Cris hand carves all the designs into her work in a form of sgraffito that is amazing.

Pam uses unusual glazes to produce containers of various size.

Larkin could fill your cupboard with the work he produces.
His work is always in high demand for its color and utility.

Irene has a varied collection of work in harmonic colors.
Not shown is some vibrant work in black.

Giga is another quantity-quality producer.
Brilliant colors, traditional, and divergent forms keep her work in high demand.

Member Sale Set Up

Our sale is located in the Exhibit Hall of the Boulder County Fair Grounds located in Longmont at the intersection of Hover Road and Nelson Road

Inside everyone is setting up displays of their work.
Creating a special area for large museum quality pieces.
Getting the check out tables ready for all the sales.
Thursday morning is always a big rush for first choice of all the new work.

It always takes longer to set up the display than take it down.
Hopefully we sell enough of our work that we don't have to carry so much home.

Our home is located at 3185 Sterling Circle in Boulder
Behind the wall is our kiln yard protected from the elements.

The downdraft reduction gas kiln in the center of the picture is still hot from firing.
It will be unloaded tonight for the sale tomorrow.
